Surrendering to God

         Surrendering to God
I know that the massive font is a bit obnoxious, but it has a purpose: to grab your attention and pull you closer. Because let’s be honest, the idea of surrender can be hard, especially for those who have been hurt from trusting too much! For me, surrender and submission were both pretty awful words; they reminded me of memories that made me feel small and broken. They made me feel like a prisoner all boxed in and shackled. But now that I am knowing Jesus more, those two words are some of the most redeeming words that I know.
For some of us those words mean that we have to give up our power to be right. And by some of us, I mean most of us. Humans come with that nasty sin nature that makes us stubborn and silly. And when we have been traumatized in any way, that attitude? Well it’s intensified.
So how does one get to surrender? How does one practice submission? It takes KNOWING and TRUSTING Jesus! That comes from spending time with Him. It also takes an act of laying down. It takes a moment where even though you want to do it on your own you give it to God instead. That can be a hard thing to swallow, but it is liberating!
